Winter Wonderland

Woke up this morning and couldn't believe what I saw -

Six inches of snow!

This was our back garden:

Checked the school website and bad weather line which both said school was open.

This was what it looked like when we set off at 7.15am:

That's husband's car covered in snow; I smugly got my car out of the garage, no scraping or deicing needed and started my 30 minute journey to work.

I shouldn't have been so smug.........

By 8am I was still stuck on the M60 going nowhere and running out of petrol.

I couldn't get through to school so texted husband to contact school for me who just texted back "come home"

Eventually we did at about 8.45am

At 9.20am the school website announced that school was closed.

Why couldn't they post that at 7am?!

Anyway, this was the scene at home:

So we set about making a giant snowman:

having snowball fights:

making snow angels:

and generally enjoying an extra day's holiday in a Winter Wonderland!

And the best bit?

School is closed tomorrow as well!

Yay!

Sharon - so glad it made you smile; it's made me smile (since I managed to get home)

Kim - this IS in town! This is suburban Manchester! Never seen snow like this since I moved here!

We've had this sort of weather on and off for weeks now (rural Lincolnshire): it does look beautiful but I'm heartily fed-up with the travel chaos. And it does annoy me that schools can't get an update to their websites early - rant..rant...rant!!
Lovely photos though and happy times for you and your daughter x

Trish - we've had a couple of inches on and off since 18 Dec, but I haven't seen 6 inches of snow in a long time! I can imagine you are fed up with the travel chaos; I could only enjoy it when I knew that school was closed and I wasn't expected in work. And I can't understand why the Headmaster can't ring the person in charge of the website and get it updated before everyone sets off for school, either! Surely, the website can be done from home? And the Head lives on site at our school!

Love it! Looks like such a wonderful day. We've had quite a bit of snow, but not the kind to build snowmen out of. It's all been powder which is great if you like to ski.

It looks lovely tho I can imagine traveling by car is not fun. Kay is heading north on Thursday - I hope she gets there ok.

Lovely photos :)

Wondering if TG's school will be closed tomorrow, she leaves home at 7.15, they NEVER update it by then, it's a real pain!

Looks like you had a great time, enjoy tomorrow too.

Wow - fab pics! Snow started while we were in school. Birmingham closed all schools an hour early, but no news on tomorrow. I haven't seen this much snow for years - had a difficult drive home, but like the rest of the staff I came home with loads of work (just in case!). Enjoy your snow days!

Now THAT snowman is hugely impressive, quite literally!

It is amazing how much snow you all are getting in Europe! We have heard from Peters family and our friends in Denmark, and seen pictures, and they are getting record snowfalls, too.

Looks like you all had a wonderful time!

Enjoy...

You look like you're having a great time, what a fab snowman!

I'm a bit worried about getting home from work, though school was open today. We'll see!

I'm hoping we have snow too so the garden can look all lovely and tidy for once.

Nicholas would like to say nice snow angel to Izzy. He liked the huge snowman too and wanted her to know that ours has a carrot nose. (I will email you a photo as an attachment!)

Love the snowy pictures - and the fact that you had given some prior thought to the car and were able to drive straight out of the garage whilst everyone else scrapes!!
We have been snowed in for 2 days but my daughters school re-opened today and the sun is out now so I'm hoping to re-join the land of the living soon!

Looks like a wonderful day! Is that little shed a playhouse? It's adorable, whatever it is.
