You know you've accepted Motherhood when ....

This year, in September, I reach the ripe old age of 40 (more on that milestone later). So husband asked me what I would like to do to celebrate. I suggested that we go away for a weekend to a posh hotel in the Lake District.

"Just the two of us?" he asked.

"Oh no, the three of us!" I replied.

That's when I realised that I'd accepted motherhood.

It's no secret that I found it difficult to adapt from DINK to Working Mum. I'd often hanker after my old life: gym membership, lazy weekends, exotic holidays, lie ins, posh restaurants, etc. But those days are gone. Now, given the chance of a little bit of my old life back, a weekend away with husband in posh hotel, what do I want? To take daughter with us!

So husband has done a fantastic job of finding somewhere suitable and has booked us a weekend here:

Children welcome. Family rooms. Aftenoon tea for children. Babysitting service while parents have dinner in restaurant. Swimming pool for daddy and daughter while mummy has massage in spa. Free entry to local animal park for fresh air and fun. Perfect!

Well you HAD to take her, didn't you.
I was more worried about being thirty than forty (I remember) Now I am dreading 70! (Suppose I ought to be grateful that I'm still alive.)
Inside I'm just the same!

My friend just booked a very similar thing for her husband's 40th weekend away, and guess what, they took their little daughter too. Everyone asked if it was just the two of them, and she said no way he would want to leave the daughter behind! It is very personal. I know people who keep doing almost all the things they did before they had kids, and people who change completely and accept they are a family of 3 ( or 4 or 5) now...

We've been there! It is So Lovely. Someone bought us a weekend away there as a present - it was amazing. You'll have a fabulous time :) I'd love to go back. We were sans babies when we went but I'd love to take FP there for the countryside, the pool, the croquet... not to mention being looked after and the wonderful food. I think there was even a tv in the bathroom!!

You will enjoy it more with your daughter there with you. Next time it could be just the two of you.

I am deeply envious - what a wonderful looking place. But I don't really mind waiting a couple of years for my fortieth treat after all!

Wow - that looks fantastic - any more room for a little one??? But does it mean you haven't accepted Motherhood if you'd rather go alone with the hubby (ahem...me)??? Does that make me an awful Mother?? Hope not...cos I love them really...

Maggie - It's just a number, enjoy it!

FFF - I'm so glad you said it was nice; I'm really looking forward to it now.

Wife of Bold - I think a massage is definitely in order

Gigi - Thank you for the compliment

Sharon - we went away without her once (for one night on our anniversary a couple of years ago) and I missed her a lot too!

Scary - I'm sure there'll come a time when I want to go away without her (teenage years springs to mind!) but for now I enjoy her company

Really Rachel - another endorsement! This just increases my anticipation!

Maternal Tales - I'm sure there are lots of reasons for wanting to go away with/without children, at the moment I want her with me, but when she's a teenager I'll be planning my escape!

Iota- I'm not bothered about being 40; I'm using it as an excuse to celebrate!

I remember hankering after a stay at Armathwaite before we had kids and couldn't afford it then.

Not a cat in hells chance now LOL!

I love the lake district.

Hope you have a fantastic time!
