Everything but the kitchen sink

While work on the hall, stairs and landing has been halted pending the arrival of a plumber to fix the shower, I thought I would get on with my other summer house project - finishing the kitchen.

The kitchen was one of the first rooms to be done in the house two and a half years ago and, sufferering from decision overload, I just painted it cream and put all the kitchen paraphenalia from our old house in it. It's a gorgeous kitchen, but I felt it needed a bit of dressing.

So, this summer, I introduced some colour by painting my photo wall a lovely colour of green/blue (Crown Fashion for Walls in Carnaby):

Then I set about accessorising with a modern twist on traditional farmhouse picking out the cream colour to contrast with the black granite:

I invested in an Aga hob top kettle to free space on the worktop (and be more energy efficient) and I decided to create a little 'cupcake baking' area in the corner (inspired by the course I went on last Saturday) with kilner jars of marshmallows, dolly mixtures and love hearts:

I also spent hours cleaning my oven which now looks like this:

So you can see I've been rather busy for the last few days.

Now, my family are coming for lunch on Sunday, what can I cook that won't require the oven?

Well, I'm not getting it mucky again now I've cleaned it!

Now I have kitchen envy. Dammit.
I just LOVE your cupcake corner!! Oh, and the whole caboodle. Nice work. Can you come round to mine and do the same??! :)

Fish and chips in the paper, won't even smudge the sink either.

Looks lovely btw.

Ladybird World Mother - this is my dream kitchen and I just love it. I have to say it was thanks to an inheritance from my grandmother, who, btw, would be so shocked that I spent it all on a kichen!

Surprised and Excited Mum - good idea, I'm actually thinking of doing fish because it's best cooked in a microwave!

Yummy, just like mine only 10 times bigger. That is also the cleanest kitchen I have ever seen.

Now THAT is what I call a kitchen.

Friendly, smart, fresh and cosy.

Very nice! I love a picture wall. I have one, too - right over my craft table. I love the blue colour.

Order pizza. :) That won't mess anything up.

Sharon - I don't think it's going to stay that clean once I'm back at work; that's why I took the pictures now!

Moannie - it's true the kitchen is the heart of the house, we spend most of our time here and a kitchen big enough for a table was number one on my priority list when we were looking for a house. I love daughter sitting there reading or colouring while I'm getting tea ready!

Love your kitchen! I am hoping to make a few changes to mine. I wish that I could add several more feet to mine. It's a little small for my taste, but works.

One day mine will be finished!

I also have a photo wall in the hall.

Gosh, it gleams like new! Can you come over and do mine for me?!

BEAUTIFUL kitchen. Love the photo wall, we have something similar. I did a spurt of decorating alomst 2 years ago but now we have two rooms in depserate need of attention--you have just inspired me to get on with it.

BTW, I have a stainless steel cooker which looks NOTHING like yours. How much can I pay you to come with your magic make mine look as shiny and lovely as yours?! ;)

Crystal Jigsaw - I am reluctant to mess it up, but the lure of cooking is too strong!

Nicol - I'm so glad that you like the kitchen; I was thinking about your room makeovers as I was doing it!

Maggie May - I hope you get your kitchen finished soon and can enjoy it

Kelloggsville - I have no secret, it doesn't look like that very often, two days of husband and child and it will be a minefield again

Suburbia & Michelloui - no amount of money would be enough to induce me to clean anyone else's kitchens or cookers!
