Menorcan Memories

So, as promised, here is the low down on our holiday in Menorca.

Remember, we'd never taken daughter abroad before, but had holidayed in the UK in Country Cottages which served us well until last year when, after a week of rain, husband said he was going abroad next time, so I said he had to book it. Well, the boy did well. Knowing my high standards and requirements he did his research and found us just the thing.

If you find other people's holiday snaps boring, just look at this one and then skip the rest - it sums up the holiday pretty well:

Now, for family and frends who may be interested, the rest of the story:

We stayed at the Sol Gavilanes hotel on the beach at Cala Santa Galdanes:

The hotel was beautiful and the food was amazing (even better because I didn't have to cook it!). Izzy, being her usual Miss Independent self, helped herself to buffet at breakfast and dinner and seemed so grown up doing so. The hotel had a lovely pool and the beach was soft white sand and shallow waters so Izzy spent most of the time in the water. This was my foray into the water:

We hired a car for a week and took trips to Mahon, Cuitadella and Binibeca as well as going to the top of El Torro and visiting some ancient sites:

We took Izzy to a horse show one night to see the fabulous Menorcan Stallions:

she loved it!

There was lots of ice cream........

and cocktails........

(non-alcoholic, of course)

......... and a lot of laughter.

It was good to be together, the three of us, without any pressures, worries, DIY or jobs to do. I haven't laughed so much in ages. I think husband laughed the most at this point in the holiday:

In fact, the holiday was so good I told husband that he could book next year's holiday as well!

He he he!

Glad to see you're back and that you had such a good time! This is my first comment in blogland ever, so I am a bit unsure how this will appear. Apologies if I muff it, and if I get it right, I wonder if you can guess who I am?!

LOVED your vacation photo's and story. So glad that yall got to get away from everything and have fun as a family. I think we all need to do that. Beautiful place to visit.

Sounds like you all had a gorgeous time. I have to say that you do relax more if you are "away away" which is exactly what you need and that sun will have done your chest the world of good.

Perhaps you'll take the plunge sometime and come visit us in Oz???!!!!

Looks like you had such a great time on your holiday! I look forward to after the baby comes when I can do some more traveling. I'm already trying to figure out where to go next year for our summer holidays.

Mater Familias - your nickname gives you away! Of course I know who you are!

Scrappy Sue - Menorca is a tiny Balearic Island (belonging to Spain) in the Mediterranean Sea; quiet, friendly and restricted tourism and building, so still beautiful. Also, I don't know where those boobies came from! (And I am not pregnant, before you ask!)

Who's the Mummy? - Cocktails are compulsary on holiday!

FFF - I'm not sure about the bikini thing, I was too hot for anything else, diet started yesterday!

Modern Mom - He knows how to capture my best side, doesn't he?

Gigi - Glad you liked it. I liked the first photo best.

Claire - I'm sure the sun did do us all good. We are DEFINITELY coming to visit you in OZ in the future - it's on our list!

Nicol - you are a much more adventurous traveller with children than I am (didn't you go to Mexico?) so I'm sure you'll be off when the baby's born.

Maggie May - yep, the Med was much nicer than the Manchester Ship Canal as well!

Polly - relaxed was the intention and it worked

That was a GIANT ice cream! The water looks fabulous, and my daughter would have been over the moon if she had seen that beautiful horse. What a fab holiday! We're going camping in August, in Dorset... crossing my fingers for half the sun it looks like you had!

Welcome home, I've been to Minorca several times ( we nearly bought a villa in Binixia, near San Clemente and between the airport and Cala n Porter )and it is a great place to holiday with kids, we used to drive up to Cala Mesquida beach from Mahon, lovely and used by locals, def worth a visit if you go back.

You are tremendously brave posting a bikini pic, I struggle to allow myself to be photographed san cardigan !

Michelloui - whatever the weather, I'm sure you can find ice cream sundaes in Dorset

AG - I was hoping people would be looking at the expression on my face not the bikini!

I am off to Ibiza in three weeks (the quiet bit) and having seen you in a bikini, think I'd better start doing some sit-ups!!
We went to Menorca about 7 years ago and it was bloody freezing. The locals said that happens once in a while. Typical!

Working Mum said...

What's with all the comments about the bikini?! Look at the beautiful sea and the sunny sky, not my wobbly bits!

Reluctant Housewife said...

So let me try to remember all the thoughts I had viewing your pictures... because I know your day would simply not be complete with every stray thought in my head expressed... and nor would mine. ;)

Great pictures! I love the first one! Your girl looks so happy. What a lovely big smile. It looks like you had lots of fun. Those ancient sites look very interesting. That's possibly the biggest ice cream sundae I've seen anywhere. and Wow! you look great in a bikini. Work it, girl!

Reluctant Housewife said...

And in reply to your comment about your wobbly bits: There are none!

Working Mum said...

Reluctant - thank you for your comments and for the reassurance about my body image - I love your random thoughts, keep thinking!

looks great - isn't it wonderful when things works out so well :0)

Not even your MIL can undo that much fun and the happy memories are out there in black&white for us all to see.

(and following the non-wobbling bit theme - your boobs appear not to have gone south - well done - for that I am remarkably envious!)
