Because we're worth it

We had to pay for our Summer Holiday this week.

I hate paying for holidays. All that money saved up over the past year gone in a flash. I keep thinking of all that we could do with that money: new bannister and spindles, new interior doors, change my car, get the driveway paved, stock the garden, etc, etc.

This year the holiday is costing us more than ever because husband announced that we were going abroad. No more self catering in country cottages. We're off to Menorca to a five star hotel with pool, beach and restaurants.

But is it worth the cost?

Especially in these straightened economic times.

Would we be better saving the money and going to Wales again?

Hang on .............

........ this was our summer holiday last year:

Husband and daughter braving the beach in Pembrokeshire.

Yep, I think it's worth it!

Your summer holiday sounds like ours, except we will be cold in a land down under this year.

I remember making the decision never to holiday in Cornwall/Devon again - we'd had 3 years of damp cottages, rain, and wearing fleeces on the beach. Then finally we were in Cornwall when the whole county flooded - we had to walk miles to get off the beach at Bude! I said never again. It's been abroad ever since. It's so worth it!

I think it's great that you take the time to save for a summer holiday. Think of all of the memories that you are storing up for your family. These are the ties that bind...Put the money out of your mind and enjoy:)

Yes yes yes. It's definitely worth it. My eldest still talks about Italy as if it's the only place in the whole world. When she's playing in her room she sometimes walks around with a bag and when I ask her what she's doing she says 'I'm packing to go on holiday Mummy'. And when I ask her where she's going on holiday, she says 'Italy'...as if I'm stupid. This was a year ago and we went for a week. She will never forget it!

It's a shame that we often don't get good weather in this country. We've had a few holidays abroad, but most of them have been in this country and we've generally been lucky with the weather. I do understand why you're looking forward to a sunny holiday abroad this year. It will be worth every penny, I'm sure!

You work so hard all year through so you definitely deserve this. Who knows, maybe it will help you get rid of that nasty chesty bug too and it certainly sounds like you could all do with a good shot of Vitamin D after the past two UK "Summers"!!!

Yes, you might as well have guaranteed sun for your summer hol. Although when we went to Mnorca about 6 years ago, the first week was cold and rainy. Apparently that's quite common in July. (The 2nd week was boiling!)

Hope you have a great time, it's what family memories are made of (in contrast to last summer!)

Well we will be holidaying in the UK still this year (3 young kids ,don't fancy flying plus extra passport costs) BUT would much rather go abroad - if you can do it go for it
