Photostory Friday - Castles

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

I was going to take my camera out and photograph a beautiful English Summer's Day. Unfortunately the weather has not obliged, it has been persisting down all week.

To remind us of what summer holidays are supposed to be like we have dug out our photos of a fantastic holiday we had in Northumberland two years ago. Northumberland is one of the UK's great secrets. (Although Wife in the North is putting it on the map!) It has beautiful scenery, gorgeous beaches, castles (including Alnwick, the one in Harry Potter), Hadrian's Wall and Roman Forts, the Alnwick Garden, Beamish and so much more. I'm beginning to sound like the Tourist Board!

We stayed near the sweeping sands of Bamburgh Beach which is overlooked by the magnificent Bamburgh Castle. It was here we enjoyed long, hot summer days building our own castles:

Perhaps she'll be an architect when she grows up?
Well, she did get a good report from school, you know!

Great picture but it just makes me desperately sad - when is the damn sun going to come out so I can get my children wearing the really cute swimming cossies I bought in the sale!

Arr, sandcastles I remember them well. As for Alnwick, a wonderful place, I used to love to visit. Debs Bon Weekend x

We like the beach no matter what the weather is like!
That is a beautiful photo! Gorgeous hair your daughter has. I used to eat crusts to no avail, as my mum used to tell me that would make my poker straight hair curl!

I have very fond memories of going to the beach! I've always lived on the east coast, never more than a 25 minute drive to the ocean. The last 30 years only 12 mins. What a cute shot of your little architect.

Building may be in her future. I now want to visit Nothumberland. You make a wonderful tourism board.

How fun! Building sandcastles at the beach is always a great way to pass the time.

Well I know where Northumberland is, because my family would visit Newcastle. What fun we had!

Yes, Northumberland is great. We saw Hadrian's Wall, when we visited (OK, probably not all of it) and I'm fairly sure that we walked along Bamburgh Beach. Both very windy places, as I remember, unless it was just the time of year. We visited Beamish just recently and I really enjoyed it.

If you enjoyed Beamish, have you visited the Blists Hill (reconstructed) Victorian village, or the Black Country Museum?

What a precious and sweet photo. I love the contrast of her blonde hair and bright covering with the beach around her. :D

Is that a Frank Lloyd Wright influence I detect in her castle?

That is such a warming capture WM. Kudos to you and your adorable architect!

So glad some of you also enjoy the delights of Northumberland. And, yes, Mean Mom, I've been to Blists Hill, but not the Black Country Museum - will have to add it to our list.

Good weather? In England? No, no. It's just another case of a photograph misrepresenting reality...

Cute picture. Sand castles, real castles I would like to see both......

I can completely agree with you about the weather. Granted New mexico always needs rain but we've had a week of overcast skies and thunderstorms and that hasn't exactly lent itself to pictures either.

However I love your sandcastles! Cute pictures and lots of fun.

The beach always makes the best backdrop for pictures! She's darling!

Northumberland's gorgeous at any time of year, still haven't done the boat trip to the Farne Islands and been pecked by puffins though!

Would you mind letting me know how I am suppposed to include all those links you've got in your post? Like to WITN or a castle. I still have no idea and it really is getting ridiculous. Thank you and I hope you're feeling lovely and chilled now you've got the whole summer stretching ahead of you Lx

Family Affairs - copy and paste the url from your address bar into a hyperlink box in your post (highlight the word you want the link attached to and click the button with the chain link on it). Hope that's helpful and not at all patronising, I am a teacher you know! Ah, copy and paste is a truly fabulous invention, pupils have been using it for coursework for years!

Lovely photo - shame about this year's weather. We've been having non-stop rain down in Brighton this week. M xx

Northumbrian beaches are beautiful. I've had some great romantic holidays at Seahouses... even if the hotel did have a fire. Eek, what drama.
